Hello friends!
The
svix-bridgeproduct supports JavaScript transformations that can run over messages before forwarding them; prior to bridge v1.101.0, this was implemented using Deno, a set of Rust bindings for V8. Deno has been EOL'd due to its parent company's acquisition, so Bridge v1.101.0 adds a new backend based on QuickJS-NG, which is the same engine that we use to power transformations in the Svix Cloud product (see this blog post for details). If you'd like to experiment with the new backend, you can set the
js_engine: "quick-js"key in your Bridge config.yaml.At some point soon, the default will switch from Deno to QuickJS.
For most customers, this should result in faster execution, less memory use, and a far more secure Bridge. However, customers who are relying on V8 extensions to JavaScript (e.g., anything in the
Deno.opsnamespace) will have to make changes to their transformations. I encourage all customers to test their transformations on the new Bridge with the QuickJS backend and let me know if you see any regressions.I'm tagging folks who have contributed to bridge recently:
PS: There are lots of other interesting and important changes in recent Bridge releases; check out the Changelog. And if you like Bridge, you might also like our new "backend swiss-army-knife" product Diom!
