🎯 Changes

  • In packages/solid-query/src/useMutation.ts, keep the MutationObserver in a signal and, in createComputed(on(client, …, { defer: true })), unsubscribe from the previous observer, create a new one with the new queryClient, reset the store to its current result, and subscribe to it, the same way useBaseQuery does. The observer was created once with the initial client, so mutations kept running in the previous client.
  • Unsubscribe the latest subscription on cleanup with onCleanup(() => unsubscribe()).
  • Add should run mutations in the new queryClient when queryClient changes to useMutation.test.tsx: switching the client while a mutation is pending resets the status to idle, the pending mutation finishing in the previous client does not update the result, and the next mutation runs in the new client.
  • Add a patch changeset for @tanstack/solid-query.

✅ Checklist

  • I have followed the steps in the Contributing guide.
  • I have tested code changes locally with pnpm run test:pr, or these tests do not apply to this pull request.
  • I have followed the AI contribution policy and fully understand the code in this pull request, including any code generated with AI assistance.

🚀 Release Impact

  • This change affects published code, and I have generated a changeset.
  • This change is docs/CI/dev-only (no release).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • When the active query client changes, mutation status now resets to reflect the new client.
    • Mutations already in progress continue to complete with the client they started with; subsequent mutations use the newly active client.
    • Mutation results are retained in the respective clients’ caches, preventing a client change from redirecting an in-flight mutation or losing its cache entry.

📝 Walkthrough

useMutation now replaces its mutation observer when the resolved QueryClient changes. The hook refreshes its state and subscribes to the new observer. A regression test covers mutations across two clients, and a patch changeset records the update.

useMutation routes mutation operations through the active observer and replaces its subscription when the QueryClient changes. The test checks state and mutation-cache behavior across two clients. The changeset marks a patch release.

Code that retains mutateAsync can send a mutation to the previous client after switching clients. Resolve this before merging unless that behavior is explicitly accepted.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Keep captured mutateAsync calls on the active client.

If a caller saves mutation.mutateAsync before queryClient changes, the saved function remains bound to the old observer. A later call creates a mutation in the old client's cache, although mutation.mutate uses the new client. Expose a stable mutateAsync wrapper that calls observer().mutate(...), and use it when initializing and updating the store. MutationObserver binds its mutate method to its instance. (github.com)
