SEP-2127 standardizes pre-connection discovery for HTTP-based MCP servers. Clients can retrieve a server card from .well-known/ai-catalog.json to discover server capabilities, supported transports, and protocol versions before establishing an MCP connection.
Areas to assess
Protocol models and serialization for MCP Server Cards
Client APIs for discovering and validating a server card
Server APIs or ASP.NET Core integration for publishing the well-known document
Transport and protocol-version compatibility checks
Validation and error handling for malformed or unsupported cards
Security considerations for trusting discovery metadata
Conformance coverage when tests become available
Proposed completion criteria
Agree on the public API and package placement
Implement server-card models and serialization
Implement client discovery support
Implement server publication support where applicable
Add unit and integration tests
Validate against conformance tests, or track missing conformance coverage
