Fold peer-run replies under their marker in 1:1 chats - #1489
Conversation
Researcher's fixture thread now holds a message to Writer and Writer's update coming back as a peer run. Two new screens check that the update stays folded under its marker until the marker is tapped. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A bot woken by another bot's message posted its reply as a normal bubble. Those replies now fold under the "Message from X" marker, collapsed by default, on web and mobile; asks and approvals stay inline. Fixes elie222#1366 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The chevron is now the ui-web ghost icon Button. A catalog test checks that both of its names are translated in every locale and keep the marker label. The web test also covers keyboard use. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

A search hit or reply quote on a folded reply now expands its marker and scrolls to it, and a reaction folds with its reply instead of showing as a stray bubble, on web and mobile. Fixes elie222#1366 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

🟡 Minor · Stop following the tail when expanding a marker by keyboard. · Shell.tsx:5121-5126
apps/web/src/pages/Shell.tsx:5121-5126
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winStop following the tail when expanding a marker by keyboard.
If a marker is at the end of the chat, keyboard activation does not clear
following.current. Expansion changesmessages, so the layout effect at Line 5315 scrolls to the bottom. A long reply can leave its marker and beginning off-screen immediately after expansion. Clear tail-following when the user toggles a marker.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

A person's answer, steering or reaction in a bot-to-bot run carries the run's id, so it folded under the marker. Now only bot text folds. Fixes elie222#1366 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The arrival check now reads its latest id from latestArrivalMessageId, which still returns the last visible row; no behaviour change yet. Fixes elie222#1366 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The arrival check skips folded peer replies, so collapsing a fold at the end no longer shows "new messages" and expanding no longer scrolls to the end. Fixes elie222#1366 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The peer ask case now answers in the recipient's chat and expects the answer bubble while the marker stays collapsed, with a screenshot. Fixes elie222#1366 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The new human-message cases read the marker by index, which tsc sees as possibly undefined; they now share one named marker fixture. Fixes elie222#1366 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Lint fails on main too since #1491 (Hebrew catalog), unrelated to this change. |
Enter or Space on the fold toggle now stops tail-following, as a pointer press already did, so expanding the last marker no longer snaps the transcript past it. Fixes elie222#1366 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Its one reader is the reply-quote jump, which runs after commit, so nothing changes in behaviour; the folded quote-jump e2e still passes. Fixes elie222#1366 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The catalog test now checks every locale in UI_LOCALES, so it caught the
missing he entries for Expand and Collapse {label}. It reads UI_LOCALES
because tsc cannot import lingui.config.ts from src (TS6059).

The Issue Identified
How to Recreate
The Fixes Made
✅ A woken bot's replies fold under their "Message from X" marker, collapsed by default, on web, desktop and Android/iOS.
✅ New control: a chevron button (the shared icon button) beside the marker, shown only when the marker has folded replies. Expanding draws the replies under it as normal messages. Clicking the label still opens the view-only peer chat.
✅ Opening a folded reply from search or from a reply quote expands its marker and scrolls to the reply, on web, desktop and mobile.
✅ A reaction to a folded reply folds with it, so no stray reaction bubble shows while it is collapsed, and the count is on the reply when expanded.
✅ Anything from that run that needs you (asks, choices, approvals, takeovers) stays inline and never folds.
✅ Your own replies and reactions in a bot's chat always stay visible; only bot replies fold. Answering a bot's question or steering it while it works joins that bot's run, and those messages used to fold under its marker.
✅ Opening or closing a fold no longer shows "new messages" on mobile, and opening one no longer scrolls to the end as if a message arrived.
✅ Opening the last fold from the keyboard (Enter or Space on the chevron) keeps the chevron in view on web, as a click already did. Before, the chat jumped to the end of the expanded replies and the focused chevron scrolled out of sight.
✅ No new visible words. The only new copy is the chevron's accessible name on web: "Expand Message from X" / "Collapse Message from X". An icon-only button needs a name for screen readers, so it can't be removed; it already appears only when there is something to expand. It follows the existing "Expand {0}" / "Collapse {0}" sidebar pattern and is translated in all ten web locales. Mobile reuses its existing "Show {label}" / "Hide {label}" names, the same as handoff events.
✅ Hebrew, the newest web locale, gets the two chevron names: "הרחבת {label}" (Expand) and "כיווץ {label}" (Collapse). Without them a Hebrew screen reader announces the English name; they reuse the verbs of the existing Hebrew "Expand {0}" / "Collapse {0}" names. No visible words change.
➖ Not changed: stored history, model context, exports, unread and push, and the sidebar preview.
➖ Not changed: a reply whose marker is outside the loaded page still shows inline, and the bot's own messages in your run (e.g. "messaging that bot now.") stay as they are.
➖ Not changed: a text reply to a folded reply stays inline; its quote opens the folded reply.
➖ Not captured: iOS. It runs the same mobile code as the Android captures above. On mobile, opening a folded reply from search or a quote, and opening or closing a fold without a "new messages" prompt, are covered by tests only.
